As far as decorating goes you definitely need:

    a mini refrigerator

a chair for your desk (desk is usually provided)

    sheets and linens (towels etc)

Organizational things like the little drawers to hold pencils and junk lol

Maybe a rug because the floor usually doesnt have carpet

If you want u can get a college chest that way you can lock up your valuables (trust me get one! and my mom still has hers and she’s 40 lol she says it has memories)

Ummm go clothes shopping of course so you can have a more mature style

Maybe think about a flat screen computer monitor for your dorm with a mini mouse to hook up to your laptop when your there.

And of course maybe like posters and schools scarves and tshirts for your wall.

To not get homesick you should stay focused on school and get iinvolved with school activities. This is one of the funnest time of your life so dont let it go by without enjoying it!

To stay organized its simple stay ahead of everything. This is not high school so DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!

Well, last year was my first year of school, so I will tell you what I learned.

1.) GO TO CLASS. Yes, it is painfully boring, and all the cool kids are out drinking, but that is what you are there for. It is really easy to just let a class or two slip, and your parents will be pissed off.

2.) SLEEP. Yes, it is painfully boring and all the cool kids are out drinking, but you need it.

3.) You are going to be sick. A lot. A combination of drinking a lot, sleeping very little, and spending every day with a bunch of dirty college kids will ravage your immune system. So pack some cold medicine and drink your orange juice.

4.) Try to avoid Dorm Drama. I am surprised there are no reality TV shows about life in the dorms. Your friends are all probably going to sleep with eachother at some point, and just try and stay out of their little squabbles. It isn’t worth getting involved.

5.) When you are homesick, confide in somebody. Tell your favorite stories about home with them. Or call a friend you knew and see how they are adjusting. I went to school about 2000 miles away from home, so I know all about that.

6.) Join some clubs. It can be really scary being all alone in a new place, and clubs are an awesome opportunity to meet new people.

So my final advice would be RELAX. Those first few weeks are going to be tough. It is a big change, and you will have to grow a lot. But once you are settled, you are going to have the time of your life. College is a huge improvement over high school, and you are probably going to meet the people who you are going to love for the rest of your life.
